The television equivalent of “making it to the big time” for a home has to be Home and Garden Television (HGTV). In that case, a few of the homes on Cherokee Village’s popular Lake Thunderbird have made it to the big time.
Almost a year after a crew from HGTV’s Lakefront Bargain Hunt wrapped up three days of filming, HGTV has aired the Cherokee Village episode on Sunday, May 15. Cherokee Village marked the occasion with a big community-wide lakeside cookout and viewing party to watch the episode live.
The community came out to the Thunderbird Recreation Center to lounge on the lawn overlooking Lake Thunderbird and enjoyed grilled burgers and hot dogs. Folks enjoyed beanbag toss games and a miniature golf tournament. There was live viewing of the HGTV Lakefront Bargain Hunt episode inside the recreation center.
The 30-minute episode features Ted and Amanda Herget, owners of Gearhead Outfitters headquartered in Jonesboro, Arkansas, just about one hour from Cherokee Village. The couple is shown through several Village lakefront homes by local real estate agent Jason Rhodes of King-Rhodes & Associates Real Estate, one of the area’s oldest real estate firms.
The episode details the Hergets search for a family retreat to getaway from their busy personal and professional lives. Ted started his business in a friend’s living room in Jonesboro in 1997. Today, the outdoor gear retailer has grown to locations across Arkansas and in two adjoining states: Little Rock, Rogers, Fayetteville and Bentonville along with a store in Shreveport, LA and one soon to come in Springfield, MO. The store’s flagship location in downtown Jonesboro helped revitalize the historic district.
The May 15 community-wide event sponsors include: FNBC Bank, King-Rhodes & Associates Real Estate, Cherokee Village Suburban Improvement District, Your Hometown Radio Stations, Forschler’s, and Village Adventures.
