Friends of Cherokee Animals

One measure of a community is how well they take care of their animals. Cherokee Village is fortunate to have a dedicated team of people working tirelessly to ensure area abandoned or neglected animals are cared for and eventually found a loving home. The city-operated animal shelter located at the Village's West Entrance along Highway 289, is able to host some 20 dogs and cats in what is affectionately referred to as the "Dog House" and "Cat House". The shelter's non-profit arm, Friends of Cherokee Animals, brings together a great group of local residents who are raising dollars and support to continue upgrading and growing the shelter facilities and services.

The Village View will periodically feature information about the shelter and about ways to support their work. Here are FOUR ways you can plug in: DONATE in-kind items like old blankets, leashes, kennels, or animal toys; GIVE your time to foster animals waiting for adoption; CONTRIBUTE cash through the Friend of Cherokee Animals non-profit (tax deductible); JOIN "Friends of Cherokee Animals" and become a member of this passionate group of animal lovers.

Mark your calendar for Friends of Cherokee Animals upcoming fundraiser “Bowl for the Animals” on June 11 at Indian Hills Bowl from 11:00 - 3:00 pm. The event will raise funds to help pay medical expenses for homeless dogs and cats at the shelter. For more information about Friends of Cherokee Animals, visit their Facebook page at:
